DUKA Athletes in Stoke
The weekend of 18-19th April 2009 saw most of Britain's top deaf athletes travelling from all over the UK to Stoke on Trent for DUKA Deaflympics Meeting and the joint City of Stoke Athletics Club/DUKA Deaflympics Trials. Saturday saw the team arrive to attend a meeting at Stoke Deaf Club. It was the first time most of the British elite deaf athletes had visited Stoke Deaf Club. Click here for story and results. Dunbar Running Club/Team Edingburgh and DUKA athlete ‘Superbaby’ Lauren is enjoying her new event – the 400m so much, she is improving all the time. At the Scottish Senior Closed Championships in Glasgow on 17th January 2009, she broke the European Deaf Indoor 400m record (still to be rectified) when she ran 57.44sec.

Athletics Competition in Stoke-on-Trent 19th April 2009
There will be an atletics competition in Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday 19th April 2009. All GB Taiwan Deaflympics athletes need to participate.

Urgent News from UK Deaf Sport
The UK Sport Board considered UK Deaf Sport's request for funding to send the GB squad of athletes and officials to Taipei Deaflympics this September and they made the decision not to give UK Deaf Sport a funding award. Click Here to read the full article

2008 WIDEX Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year
In December 2008, ICSD announced its 2008 WIDEX Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. Two track and field athletes won!Maris GRENINS of Latvia who won 4 Gold medals and a new WR at last years 1st World Deaf Athletics Championships and Trude RAAD of Norway, who got the Gold medal at the same championships. Raad now holds the WJR in Shot Putt, Discus and Hammer. She has also recently raised the WR for the senior hammer event to 60.47.
