08/07/07

Candy’s latest report from April – July 2007

I ran a warm up open meeting during April in Barking, Essex. I chose to compete in the 1500m in very hot conditions and came 4th in 5:03.7. On 28th April in the 1st of the Southern Women League matches in Crawley; I finished 2nd in the 800m in ‘B’ race. During this race I did not have the strength in the last 100m; this was due to my recent operation. Also I competed in the 4 x 400m relay; running the 2nd leg in the fastest split 63.02; my team finished 3rd

On Friday 4th May in a 5km race at Victoria Park in Ashford I was the 2nd female, and the 1st Vet female in a time of 20:08. On the 12/13th May at the Kent Champs in Ashford in strong windy conditions I ran the 800m heat and finished 4th; later in the final I finished 5th. The next day in the 1500m I finished in 6th place. The following weekend on 19th May in the Southern women’s league match I competed in the 800m and finished 3rd in 2:25. In the 400m I finished 5th in 64.1 and I also ran in the 4x400m. On Monday 21st May in the Southern Vets league I ran in the 400m, which I won easily in 63.66secs.

In the British Miler club event in Watford on Wednesday 30th May I was very disappointed with my run in the in 800m; in last 200m my legs felt very heavy and I came 9th.

For the UK Women League match on Sunday 3rd June; we were struggling to put together a full strength team. We travelled up on Saturday and stayed overnight; this gave us time to prepare for the competition the next day. I competed in 4 different events, which left me feeling very tired.

My results were:

  • 800m – 6th
  • 200m – 8th
  • 100m – 7th
  • 4 x 400m relay

On Wednesday night at the British Miler Club again in Watford on 13th June; the weather was wet and windy. I was caught in the M25 traffic, which left me with only 30mins warm up for the 800m; I came 4th in 2:24.14.  On Sat 16th June at the Southern Champs in London at Crystal Palace I came 7th in the 800m; my legs felt heavy in the last 200m and I struggled to cross the line. For the first 600m I was timed at 1:45, which my coach was very pleased with, however I felt really disappointed with the run.

In an open meeting in Rochester on Wednesday evening 20th June I ran in the 400m and finished 4th in 63.9 secs.  One week later on Wednesday 27th June, I travelled to London for the British Miler Club where I finished 3rd in the 800m in 2:25.3. The weather was wet and windy which may have affected my time. Finally the last race before going to Bulgaria for The European Deaf Athletics Championships, I ran in the Vets League match 100m, which I won easily in 14.3 secs.

I’ve been working hard in training, following heavy programs which focus on the 800m.  I am feeling stronger and feel I have now got my strength back.

Looking forward to Bulgaria….
