New Petition for Deaf Athletics :
23.08.07
News...
A new petition has recently been set up to raise awareness of the lack of funding that is available to Deaf Athletes that are at the top of their sport
It is nearing 100 years since the1st World Games of the Deaf (now the Deaflympics) were held in Paris in 1924, yet today, Deaf Athletes are still not included in the World Class Performance Programme. This means, Deaf Athletes have to raise their own funding to assist with training, medical, competition and other related expenses, whilst mainstream and Paralympic athletes are supported financially. It is time that changes are made and deaf athletics get government support.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Advice the Dept of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) to immediately include Deaf Athletics in the World Class Performance Programme Plan
Currently Deaf Athletes are missing out on government funding for development, training, medical support and international competitions as deaf athletes are excluded from the governments' DCMS World Class Performance Funding Plan. The plan supports Olympic and Paralympic Athletics (but not Deaflympics) with funding for development, medical, training and competitions. Deaf athletes are not included and so are disadvantaged.
