Deaf UK Athletics is pleased to publish the official Qualification Standards for the 2008 1st World Deaf Athletics Championships that will be held in Caracas, Venezuela from 24 to 28th September 2008.
These championships demands the highest quality athletes as all the best athletes from all over the world are likely to participate. They are in fact the ‘trial’ events for the 2009 Taiwan Deaflympic Games. This is because many of those taking part in Caracas 2008 and performing excellently are likely to be given the chance again to represent their countries in the Deaflympics that will be only 12 months after the World Championships.
Deaf UK Athletics is totally committed to giving opportunities to high caliber (quality) athletes and as such we are looking at prospective medalists. As mentioned above, the Venezuela World Championships performances will greatly influence our selection decision for the Taiwan Games. So those who do very well are certain to be given the opportunities to represent the country again. It is therefore that these championships are taken very seriously and not as ‘fun’ championships.
The Qualification Standards are very important. Please ensure that you print a copy and forward to your coach. We will only accept OFFICIAL results from athletics competitions where UK Athletics competitions rules and regulations have been followed. Results must be written on official competition results form or DUKA competitions results form. Either of these forms MUST have the signatures of the track or field judge. Photocopies or word of mouth will not be accepted. Please note that we will not do your research work for you – for example, asking us to buy all the athletics magazines or surf the internet to find out the results of your competitions. Pre selection acceptable results must not be more than 12 months old and after January 2007.
VERY IMPORTANT:
For the Venezuela Championships, Selection Decision will be based upon results achieved between 1st March 2008 and 15th June 2008.
We will accept photocopies from magazines only if the photocopy clearly shows the name of the magazine, the page number, date it was published, your name (full name or surname and initials) and athletics club. Also very important that it shows where the competition was held and date of the competition.
Deadlines:
- By 28th November 2007, inform DUKA that you wish to be considered.
- By 28th November 2007, provide DUKA with the name of your club, name of your coach, contact details of your coach – email and phone number
- By 28th November let DUKA know of your fund-raising strategies (how you will raise the money-if you need advice, let DUKA know)
- By 28th November 2007 let DUKA know of your planned competition schedule 2007/2008
- By 28th November let DUKA know date of your last competition and result(s)
