Super Lauren Wins 800m Gold

Lauren successfully defended her European indoor 800m title. Her Gold medal winning performance also broke the Championships' record, narrowly missing Candy Hawkins European Indoor Record by a 0.66 seconds. Lauren also got 1500m Bronze medal. John Ruddy performed superbly to achieve a new 60m PB and Dave Blackwell, unfortunately, in his first international athletics event, was made to throw first in his Shot Putt competition. This did not help his confidence! However, it was a good learning experience for him.
"I am really happy to win the 800m Gold. I have been injured for several weeks and only came to Genoa with 3 weeks training. Prior to the 800m final, I had a bout of food poisoning and a high temperature, but nothing was going to stop me defending my title" says Lauren.
GB Team Manager Brian Kokoruwe added;
"I am very proud of the performances by the GB Team. Everyone performed to the best of their ability. Lauren is an incredible talent and she becomes the first lady to successfully defend the 800m indoor title. She also got a bronze in a difficult 1500m tactcal race. John continues to show that he has
a brilliat future in athletics and Dave performed really well in his first overseas competition.
